Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports NYC & Company’s international public relations team. Works alongside Executive Vice President of Global Communications and Senior Director, Communications – International in managing the organization’s day-to-day international PR operations; visiting journalist program; planning, evaluation & merchandising function; and proactive media relations efforts. Independently writes and edits press materials. Knowledge of a foreign language preferred (Spanish or Mandarin a plus).

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Communications – International

ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports EVP Global Communications and Sr. Director, Communications – International with organization’s international media relations efforts. Includes aiding expanding network of 15+ international PR representatives, pitching US-based international correspondents, and assisting with international media requests as needed.
  • Manages logistics of international Visiting Journalist Program, including group press familiarization trips and ongoing proactive/reactive individual media visits. Works alongside Sr. Director, Communications – International and global PR representatives in strategic theme development, media selection, logistics, five-borough itinerary coordination and outreach as needed. Manages press trip planning and evaluation measures.
  • Works with Senior Director, Communications – International to develop and manage planning and evaluation tools for international PR function, including bi-monthly status reports, clip recaps, annual summaries, etc.
  • Maintains international PR calendar detailing key press trips, events, travel trade shows, sales missions and initiatives.
  • Drafts and edits timely written materials including press releases, story pitches and factsheets.
  • Working alongside Assistant Manager, Communications – Domestic, assists with day-to-day press office operations, including daily press clip report; monitoring press inboxes; managing @nycgo_press Twitter & Instagram channels; media database management; media photo/video library management; scheduling/joining meetings and conference calls; etc.
  • Helps with coordination of international press conferences and media activations as needed, including creative project management and assisting with decks, talking points, etc.
  • Merchandises international earned media coverage to internal stakeholders and NYC & Company members through e-blasts and CRM database management.
  • Minimal travel required.

Background Requirements:

This position requires 1-3 years of communications experience, preferably in the tourism/hospitality and/or international PR space. Strong command of logistics and organizational skills required. Writing ability required with fluency in English language, with foreign-language proficiency preferred (Spanish or Mandarin a plus).

The candidate must be a detail-oriented self-starter who can multitask in a busy press office environment. Bachelor’s degree required.
