Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, the Public Relations Manager, Corporate Brand Campaigns works collaboratively to develop public relations campaigns that help differentiate Stantec, bring our brand to life, and effectively position our leaders in targeted media.

Working closely with senior company executives, internal subject matter experts, and key partners in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, and Investor Relations, the this role will develop public relations campaigns and lead media outreach to amplify Stantec’s achievements, insights, and company milestones, particularly in the areas of sustainability, innovation, and growth—with the goal of amplifying Stantec’s corporate brand with key stakeholders. Initial locations of interest for this position are in Boston and Toronto, but candidates residing in other markets will be considered based on credentials and applicable experience.

Requirements

Your Key Responsibilities

The Public Relations Manager works collaboratively to develop strategic corporate-level public relations campaigns to flex company milestones, observances, rankings, recognitions, and key announcements related to sustainability, innovation, and corporate growth, across multiple external and internal platforms.

Market Awareness & Competitive Benchmarking

This role is responsible for regularly monitoring and assessing the marketplace and industry landscape to identify critical trends, topics, and developments that are relevant to clients and the communities we serve.

Media Relations & Research

The Public Relations Manager actively fosters and grows relationships with members of business and industry media at the national and international level, as well as in key markets of relevance for the company while maintaining the following areas of focus:

  • Sustainability innovations and positioning

  • Stantec Innovation Office positioning and milestones

  • Growth strategy/acquisitions and investment value proposition

  • Senior executive profile enhancement

Working with internal partners and leaders, the Public Relations Manager is responsible for identifying, researching, and developing targeted media materials (e.g., news releases, story pitches, etc.) as well as using database platforms to maintain industry media lists for media outreach. Additionally, the Public Relations Manager proactively contacts media members to communicate pertinent messages while diligently using tools to monitor, measure, and report on the corporate media presence.

Social Media Content Development

In tandem with targeted public relations campaigns, the Public Relations Manager works closely with internal partners and leaders to gather materials and content for use on the company’s various social media platforms and website.

Brand Voice – Copywriting & Editing

Strong storytelling and writing skills are essential for this role. The Public Relations Manager is a champion of the Stantec brand and an expert in implementing Stantec’s brand voice and Styleguide. They also develop dynamic content for both internal and external use.

Counsellor to Leadership

The Public Relations Manager works closely with the leaders at various levels—from senior executives to identified subject matter experts—to identify and sustain focus on top business priorities that drive growth and marketplace presence. The Public Relations Manager spearheads corporate programs and training for social media fluency and media/interview preparedness for targeted leaders.

  • Deliver measurement and analysis on the effectiveness of employee and leadership communications programs

  • Partner with Public Relations colleagues on crisis communications

  • Partner with global communicators to support effective execution of communication programs in locations across the globe

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience in:

  • Media relations

  • Professional writing and content generation

  • Executive counsel

  • Campaign planning and facilitation

  • Social media strategy and digital profile building

  • Crisis communication fluency

Other requirements:

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills

  • Ability to effectively balance multiple priorities

  • Solid understanding of the media landscape (traditional, social)

  • Excellent interviewing, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment, as well as to work autonomously

  • Familiarity with photography and video preferred

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility with multiple audiences and articulate clearly within tight deadlines

  • Strategic mindset and strong business acumen

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or Marketing

  • 10 years of public relations required experience in an agency or corporate setting—ideally in the professional services consulting space
