The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the UT School of Landscape Architecture, seek a motivated and dynamic individual to join its growing Tennessee RiverLine team as Communications and Marketing Director. Candidates are expected to possess the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to strategically direct public relations, destination marketing and brand identity initiatives that are aligned with the Tennessee RiverLine mission, guiding principles and strategic plan. The successful candidate will hold a full-time staff position in the UT School of Landscape Architecture with a 100% appointment to the Tennessee RiverLine. This individual will work with and report to UT professor and Tennessee RiverLine director Brad Collett.

Requirements
The Communications and Marketing Director is the principal curator of the Tennessee RiverLine’s story, voice and brand identity to diverse internal and external audiences. Their primary responsibilities include the development, implementation, assessment and continuous improvement of the Tennessee RiverLine’s comprehensive communications, marketing and branding plans and their component initiatives, campaigns, guides and contemporary tools. The director will build and lead a team of professionals, interns, students and collaborative partners internal and external to the University who are responsible for the execution of these plans and manage a budget of related expenses and revenues. The Communications and Marketing Director will be expected to prioritize and perform elements of these plans in collaboration with existing staff members, interns, students and consultants while the communications and marketing team is under development.
Initiatives under their direction include but may not be limited to:
- public and partner relations, including development and maintenance of media contacts
- oversight of website, mobile application and experience guide design and management with external vendors when determined appropriate
- content development for the Tennessee RiverLine’s website, mobile application, social media, e-marketing platforms and printed materials
- oversight of the Tennessee RiverLine brand vision, ensuring excellence and consistency throughout brand ecosystem
- destination marketing to local, national and international audiences
- collaboration with and support for communications and marketing partners across the region and beyond
- merchandising
- event planning and facilitation
- strategic partnership development, including with academic units at UT and regional colleges/universities
- professional development and mentorship of team members
All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner aligned with the Tennessee RiverLine’s guiding principles, as well as its established commitment to innovation, exceptional service, continuous improvement and an inclusive and collegial workplace.
This position is currently grant-funded and as a result listed as a Limited Duration Appointment (LDA). If ongoing sustained funding discussions with our principal partners are successful, and if there is mutual agreement on terms of continued employment, the successful applicant will continue as a member of the Tennessee RiverLine’s leadership team beyond the scope of existing funding agreements
