Assistant Director of Advancement Communications and Stewardship

Full-Time

Position Summary
This position reports to the Senior Director of Advancement Communications and Stewardship and is accountable to assist in the direction of communications and stewardship activities that support University Advancement in the achievement of divisional goals. Working with the Senior Director, assist in the execution of activities to support a comprehensive advancement communication strategy that builds on existing programs, channels and staff, and which ties into the broader University communications effort, to create general awareness and engagement across all audiences. The Assistant Director will manage the stewardship activities of the division, including assisting in the supervision of the Stewardship Specialist. 

Principal Accountabilities


  1. Assist in the development and implementation of strategic advancement communications and marketing, and stewardship plans, across multiple platforms, that are innovative, progressive, and proactive with a primary focus on annual giving, capital campaigns (as needed) and other priorities of the University. Use data analytics to continually evaluate and refine communications and stewardship programs.
  2. Contribute to content creation for print, digital, video and storytelling for University Advancement. Work collaboratively with unit and division colleagues on plan development to meet departmental goals.
  3. Assist in overseeing the creation and editorial process for Development case statements, concept papers, principal and major gift proposals, Annual Reports, and donor stewardship recognition. 
  4. Oversee donor stewardship program. Working with Development and Bryant Fund colleagues, create an annual plan to recognize, incent and generate awareness for philanthropy through ongoing communications, recognition activities, invitations to key events and interaction with beneficiaries.  
  5. Working with the Senior Director, provide editorial oversight for existing UA publications, including Engage newsletter and Around and Beyond the Archway e-newsletters. 
  6. Work with the Senior Director, Bryant Fund, and other UA staff to map a communications timeline that coincides with appeal timelines, to aid in monthly and yearly calendar targets.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in communications and stewardship, ideally in higher education. Requires demonstrated exemplary writing skills as well as creative and design sensibilities with strong understanding of the communications process from creative concept through production and execution. Demonstrated experience using data mining and analytics to develop successful programs which support stewardship activities institution wide. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within University Advancement and across the University. A Bachelor’s degree is required.
