WDSE•WRPT, an exciting and fast-growing public media organization based in Duluth, MN, is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to lead our marketing communications team. Help us optimize our approaches and strategies as we evolve from a traditional television station into a true multi-media organization, with a mission to illuminate, inspire and enrich lives to strengthen our community.

The Director of Marketing and Communications creates, develops, and oversees the implementation of marketing plans internally and externally, including cross channel / multiplatform marketing campaigns, public relations, community and strategic partnerships, and events, for the organization’s products and services, including local and national content, fundraising, and philanthropy.  This role also leads the WDSE•WRPT marketing team.

Duties of the Director of Marketing & Communications include:

  • Design and implement audience-specific, cross-channel / multiplatform marketing campaigns including digital platforms, traditional marketing channels (e.g., on-air, print, live events), and public relations for national and local station initiatives, including content, programming, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Drive WDSE•WRPT’s digital marketing efforts, including the station website, email marketing, social media, and lead generation efforts.
  • Lead and cultivate a culture of data-driven decision-making through the provision of analytics and reporting on marketing campaign outcomes.
  • Create, implement, and enforce consistent best practices for local content distribution and optimal cross-brand promotional opportunities
  • Lead the marketing and communications team including digital marketing and creative/graphic design team members.
  • Manage the station’s public relations efforts, including the development of press releases and outreach to local media organizations.
  • Work with outside vendors to produce This Month, WDSE•WRPT’s monthly member magazine.
  • Lead the organization’s brand and institutional identity, including brand campaigns.
  • Maintain distribution partner and cable partner relationships to maximize promotional opportunities for PBS and WDSE content.
  • Analyze potential strategic partner relationships for organization marketing.
  • Lead the planning and execution of events.
  • Manage the design and production of marketing material in support of marketing plans.
  • Create and manage the marketing budget.

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or communications.
  • Seven to ten years marketing and communications experience, ideally in the media or non-profit industries.
  • Minimum two to three years of people management experience.
  • Understanding of fast developing trends in digital video and OTT (over-the-top) streaming space preferred.
  • Experience managing outside marketing agencies and vendors.
